NASAA adopted the IAR Continuing Education Model Rule to establish ongoing educational requirements for Investment Adviser Representatives (IARs) — the individuals who are registered under investment advisory firms and directly interface with clients. Prior to this rule, there was no uniform, ongoing CE requirement for IARs the way FINRA's CE program governed registered representatives. The Model Rule changed that. IAR CE applies to IARs registered in states that have adopted the Model Rule.
